Spinon phonon interaction and ultrasonic attenuation in quantum spin liquids.
Several experimental candidates for quantum spin liquids have been discovered in the past few years which appear to support gapless fermionic S=1/2 excitations called spinons. The spinons may form a Fermi sea coupled to a U(1) gauge field, and may undergo a pairing instability. We show that despite being charge neutral, the spinons couple to phonons in exactly the same way that electrons do in ...
متن کاملPhonon softening and double-well potential formation due to electron-phonon interaction in heavy-fermion systems
We investigate the periodic Anderson-Holstein model by using the dynamical mean-field theory combined with the exact diagonalization method. For the strong electron-phonon coupling g > ∼ gc, the system shows an anomalous heavy-fermion behaviour which is accompanied by a large lattice fluctuation and an extreme phonon softening. We also calculate an effective potential for the ions and find that...
متن کاملPhonon linewidths due to electron—phonon coupling in NbC
We calculated the linewidths due to electron—phonon coupling of the acoustic phonon modes in NbC within a first-principles linear-response scheme. We find a pronounced correlation between anomalies in the phonon frequencies and the corresponding phonon linewidths originating from details of the Fermi surface. ( 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. متن کاملA NUMERICAL RENORMALIZATION GROUP APPROACH FOR AN ELECTRON-PHONON INTERACTION
A finite chain calculation in terms of Hubbard X-operators is explored by setting up a vibronic Harniltonian. The model conveniently transformed into a form so that in the case of strong coupling a numerical renormalization group approach is applicable. To test the technique, a one particle Green function is calculated for the model Harniltonian
متن کاملPhonon dispersions in niobium determined by x-ray transmission scattering
Quasielastic x-ray scattering from thermally populated phonons in crystalline niobium was recorded using a charge-coupled device over a large angular range. The patterns, displayed on a logarithmic intensity scale, reveal rich features. Theoretical patterns based on a lattice dynamics calculation are generated, and a leastsquares simultaneous fit of these patterns recorded at several incidence ...
